How To Make Money Selling Kindle Ebooks - Blogging Tips

Unless you have been living under a rock for the past year, you?ve probably heard about the opportunity to make money selling kindle ebooks. In my opinion, selling ebooks on amazon is the easiest and quickest way to make an extra $1,000 per month ? even if you are not a writer!

Writing ebooks is a great way to get free traffic to your blog, and even build a brand directly through Amazon. Before publishing your first ebook, you will want to think about the branding aspect and how you can get more traffic to your own blog using kindle books.

Let me walk you through the steps to get started publishing.

Step 1 ? Sign up with Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP)

KDP is the back-end where you will uploading your books. The signup process is free and pretty simple. Go to kdp.amazon.com and click ?Sign Up?.

That will take you through the process of setting up your KDP Account. You will need input your information such as name, address, SSN/EIN, etc. After you are signed up, make sure to go in and add your bank account information to the all the amazon sites (.com, .co.uk, etc) so you get paid via direct deposit instead of waiting for a check to be sent to you.

Step 2 ? Research

Research is pretty easy with amazon, you simply have to look at the best seller list in the kindle store to find out what is selling well. For example, if you go into the running category you will see a lot of books on running marathons. If you decide that is a category you want to publish in, then you should publish a book on running marathons, with your own unique twist and content of course.

Step 3 ? Outline

Once you know the topic of your book, you should plan your outline. Your outline should be very detailed, especially if you are going to hire a writer to write the book for you. Creating an outline is very important because you need to follow a specific plan and make sure your book is better than your competition.

I always suggest looking at the table of contents for your competition on amazon, as well as read the bad reviews to get a good idea of what people are looking for in your category.

Step 4 ? Hire Writer or Write it Yourself

Now that you have a really well written outline, it?s time to start writing the content of the book. If you are not a writer, don?t worry, you can always find a writer using any freelance website or a simple Google Search.

It?s important that the book is grammar and error-free, and it?s also important to get your book edited once the content is written. People WILL write a bad review if they find an error in your book. Bad reviews will lead to less sales, so you want to avoid the possibility of someone posting a bad review purely based on one error.

Step 5 ? Create a Cover or Hire a Designer

Kindle covers are flat, and need to be JPEG images. If you don?t have any design skills, it?s best to hire a designer. Your cover is the first thing that people will see when browsing through books on their kindle devices. And yes, people do judge books by their cover!

I have found 3 really good cover designers on oDesk, so I suggest you post a project there to get the best possible designs. You can usually get a cover made for around $50.

Step 6 ? Upload Your Book

So you have your cover, and your content. Now it?s time to upload your book to the kindle marketplace. You will need to write a description for your book. Your description is important because this is where you can sell your book ? think of the description as your sales page. Always provide the features and benefits of purchasing your book.

Keep your cover and your content separate ? you will be uploading these as separate files. Login to your KDP account and click ?Add Book?. That will take you to the page where you insert your title, author name, choose your categories, upload your book and cover as well as write your description.

The next page will be the pricing page. I always suggest starting your book at $0.99 to get some initial sales and to lower your cost to ?gift? the book to people for reviews.

Step 7 ? Enroll in KDP Select Program

When you are uploading your book, you have the option to enroll the book in what Amazon calls the ?KDP Select? program. I highly suggest you take advantage of this program. KDP Select will allow you promote your book for free up to 5 days every 90 days. So you can set your book to ?free? and people will be able to download your book for free.

You will want to take advantage of this because Amazon has a specific algorithm that suggests book to their users. So the more free downloads you get, the more your book will be suggested to other readers who have bought similar books.

Step 8 ? Schedule Your Free Days and Promote Your Book

Once you have a few really good reviews for you book, you will want to change the price to at least $2.99. That?s just a suggestion, you can price you book below $2.99 if you want, but you will only get a 35% royalty if you do. So compare your book to other books in the categories that you are publishing in, and set your price accordingly. Anything between $2.99 and $9.99 is eligible for the 70% royalty.

Wrapping it Up

Those are the basics of how you can start making money selling kindle ebooks. I have been publishing ebooks since January of 2012 and I now make over $2,000 per month consistently. The best part is, it?s 99% passive income!
