Follow These Expert Tips To Get Acne Free Skin Today ...

No one looks bad when they have clear, smooth skin. Having healthy skin is something everyone wants. Acne does not just happen to teens, it affects people of every age and gender. If you suffer from acne and have been trying to clear it up, consider looking into starting a skin care regimen. You will find the advice you need to get yourself started in this article.

It is vital to put acne medicine on the entire face and not just on visible spots. There can be acne under the skin in areas that haven?t appeared yet. Reserving the medication for only the visible acne will miss those future breakouts. Remember to apply the medication to your forehead, too.

Hydration is essential for skin health, especially if you suffer from acne. Water is one of the most essential things you can consume everyday. Aim for 6 to 8 glasses every day. If you have an overabundance of dead skin on your face, your pores will get blocked which is the reason you get acne.

A diet that contains fruits, vegetables, lean protein, and whole grains will help your body get rid of acne. Also, drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated, and to flush the toxins out of your system. Try to get about 10 minutes of sun per day.

Most of you have probably heard that stress is a huge contributing factor in acne breakouts. Stress is not always easy to avoid, but fortunately, there are several ways to cut back the stress in your daily life. Stretching exercises are a great way to reduce stress. Consider Pilates, tai-chi and yoga as great options.

It is important that you not pick at acne or acne scars. This will cause more irritation, redness, scarring, or possibly an infection. If you want to get rid of acne scarring, talk with your dermatologist.

For clear, acne-free skin, consider applying tea tree oil to the spots where you are acne-prone. Tea tree oil can treat blemishes, reduce oil buildup and kill germs without drying out your skin.

I used to suffer through the pain of acne at one point in my life. Then it just went away. When I stopped eating greasy foods such as pizza and fried foods, it really helped clear up my skin.

If acne breakouts are common for you, wash your face more often during the day. Wash your face twice a day, once after waking up and once before going to sleep, to clear up acne-causing bacteria and prevent your skin from breaking out.

If you?ve popped a pimple, the best treatment for it, would be to apply a dab of Neosporin. Redness and irritation also respond well to the cream?s ingredients. When applying Neosporin, always make sure to use a Q-Tip in order to assure no dirt and oil from your hands gets into the infected skin. You want to be sure that you do not put too much on.

Almost everyone, except the truly blessed, has suffered the torture and embarrassment of acne during some phase of their life. Seeking solutions to your acne problem can often lead you to a frustrating search. This article gives some realistic, workable solutions. Consistently applying these tips will soon give you the healthy, smooth skin you?ve always wanted.

Info. Technology - Brazil, Regional - Strongest Facebook user growth outside Europe, N America in Q2, Brazil among key contributors

By Andrew Rogers?/?Business News Americas

Regions outside of North America and Europe saw the strongest user growth for Facebook (Nasdaq: FB) in Q2, with Brazil, India and Japan as the key contributors to user-base growth in the quarter, CFO David Ebersman told a conference call with investors.

The total number of Facebook users reached 955mn at the end of Q2, with 9.4% sequential growth in the rest of world (RoW) markets to 268mn, 9.0% growth in Asia to 255mn and more moderate growth in European and North American markets, the company said in a results presentation.

RoW and Asia now collectively account for more users than European and North American markets, but the company has struggled to monetize those users. Despite RoW and Asia accounting for 54.8% of total Facebook users, they accounted for just 20.9% of revenues in Q2.

It is worth noting, however, that these regions also saw strongest year-on-year revenue growth. Revenues grew 73.9% in RoW to US$113mn, 64.6% to US$135mn in Asia, 25.8% in Europe to US$346mn, and 25.3% in North America to US$590mn.

Facebook's total Q2 revenue reached US$1.18bn dollars, up 32.3% on the same quarter in 2011, with increasing Arpu's in its significant Asia and RoW markets as one challenge the company now faces to grow global revenues.

Arpu's in Asia reached US$0.55 and US$0.44 in RoW during Q2, while that figure was US$1.43 in Europe and US$3.20 in North America.

Despite revenue growth, the company saw operating losses of US$743mn in the quarter, driven by US$1.3bn stock-based compensation. Without this item, the company would have seen an operating income of US$515mn, Ebersman said.

The company expects operating expenses to increase significantly in 2H12 compared to the same period in 2011, the executive said, adding that at this stage investment is top priority as opposed to managing for a target margin.

STRATEGY 2012

Facebook's priorities for 2012 remain in the areas of mobile, platform and social ads, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said, adding that over half of Facebook users use the site daily, and over half access the site via mobile.

Mobile is a "huge opportunity" for Facebook, Zuckerberg said, adding that the number of smartphone users worldwide is expected to increase to 4bn-5bn in the next five years.

People are quickly adopting Facebook's mobile service, with the number of mobile users increasing 67% in the 12 months through Q2 to 543mn worldwide. Furthermore, mobile users are more active on Facebook than desktop users, and are 20% more likely to use Facebook on average on any given day, he said.

The company also sees an opportunity to create a social layer for new apps and websites to be built on top of. "Our platform strategy enables millions of developers to build better products and helps us provide a lot of value to the people who use Facebook," Zuckerberg said.

Facebook also sees value in social advertising, according to the executive, who added that the company is already delivering strong ROI on adds despite the fact that most advertising on Facebook isn't currently social.

French coach Vince Collet reflects on loss to Team USA

(Editor?s note: Fansided is currently experiencing issues with their photo?s so bear with me. Once the problem is resolved, you will be treated to quality photos from US Presswire again.)

In light of their demoralizing 27-point loss to Team USA, French head coach Vince Collet reflected on the game. He added that they lost control, as their 18 turnovers suggests, struggled to control the glass (the United States held a 56-40 advantage) and they missed a lot of open shots. Everything he said was, well, exactly true.

?????The United States could make the game they wanted to do,? Collet said. ?They put the pressure from the ????beginning to the end of the match ? I found a game that was well structured. But then we lost control.

????Under pressure, we tried too often to find individual solutions in emerging systems, too early in ????possessions. It ? allowed Americans to make interceptions and you know it makes them unstoppable. ????Nobody plays the ball well and has such an ability to accelerate the game.?

Collet was disappointed in his perimeter shooting, France converted on 2-of-22 3-point attempts, but he also gave credit to the Americans ability to close out to shooters.

?????It was very important for us to limit the stray bullets and control the rebounds,? Collet said. ?We did not ????succeed. We also missed too many open shots. Some of the shots we missed were because the defense ????of Team USA ?

????Sometimes they will even help in the circle and they still come back as soon as the ball (arrives) on the ????shooters. It?s very impressive. But I think today we also missed at least 10 three-point shots that were really ????open and were good choices. If they had been returned, it would have helped us to stay in the game, but it ????did not happen.?

Maybe next time. Maybe next time.

'The Post-Olympic City' Shows What Became Of Ex-Olympic Sites At The Storefront For Art & Architecture (PHOTOS)

During the Olympic ceremonies, the stadiums glow with the spirit of excitement as tourists pour into temporary sites. But what becomes of these locales after the thrill of the games has passed? The exhibition titled, "The Post-Olympic City" at the Storefront for Art and Architecture in New York revisits former Olympic host cities and explores their lives following the transformative games.

2_the post olympic city

Photographers Gary Hustwit and Jon Pack visited former Olympic homes Athens, Barcelona, Mexico City, Los Angeles, Montreal, Lake Placid, Rome, and Sarajevo, collecting videos, images and other materials along the way.

Some of the sites take on more functional roles, though far less glamorous, becoming malls, gyms and prisons. For example, Los Angeles' Grand Olympic Auditorium is reborn as the Glory Church of Jesus Christ, depicted with a presumably homeless man asleep on the sidewalk. Fully estranged from its former glory, the site blends in to the smog-filled suburban landscape. Others fail to ever move on from their original purpose, rotting as shells of their long-lost greatness. And others, like Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City now accommodate Metallica concerts and other big-name musical acts.

Most of the photographs portray leave a bleak image of the cities, whether they attempt to assimilate back into everyday life or stay untouched, becoming ghosts of their former selves. The photography collection is a bleak foil to the excitement and over-the-top spectacle of the Olympics, reminding us that the glitter of the Games will eventually fade away. The project is ongoing, with the artists planning to revisit Beijing, Moscow, Berlin and London in the upcoming year.

"The Post-Olympic City" will show at the Storefront for Art and Architecture in New York from August 7-14.

See a slideshow of the photos below, and let us know your thoughts about former Olympics sites in the comments section. Is it worth the money?

Olympic Infringers | G&A Legal - Learn About Trademark Attorney ...

This is a great articles about the infringers of Olympic ring trademarks reprinted by Pollie Gautsch G&A Legal:

The Olympics are about to begin, and?the London Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games has been notoriously strict about the use by non-sponsors of items such as the Olympic?rings, the word ?Olympics,? and even the use of certain words in advertising.

Using two of the following words ?games,? ?two thousand and twelve,? ?2012,? or ?twenty twelve? together, or combining one of those with ?gold,? ?silver,? ?bronze,? ?London,? ?medals,? ?sponsor,? or ?summer? is prohibited in advertising (by non-sponsors) or on products/merchandise when used in a context that could suggest an association with the 2012 Olympic Games.

Of course, not all non-sponsors are willing to completely shy away from the lure of the Olympic games, and several have come up with creative ways to circumvent LOCOG?s rules ? sometimes, it seems, just to thumb their noses at LOCOG. By canvasing Twitter, CBC News has collected several amusing photos of businesses and billboards in London that are doing just that.

Choreographer angry that NBC cut segment

NEW YORK (AP) ? The choreographer of a somber segment in the London Olympics opening ceremony said Saturday he's disappointed that NBC decided not to show it to an American audience.

Spectators were asked to display photos of loved ones who could not be there during the segment. The music, a hymn called "Abide With Me," was described in the ceremony's program as an "honest expression of the fear of approaching death."

NBC producers did not air it, instead showing American viewers Ryan Seacrest's interview with swimmer Michael Phelps.

"I am disappointed," said Londoner Akram Khan, who choreographed and danced in the segment. "I am really sad that I couldn't show the work in America, and that really upsets me, because I don't think it's any more or less than the other pieces. It brings to mind the question ... that maybe it's too truthful."

The ceremony's program describes the performance as dramatizing "the struggle between life and death using such powerful images of mortality as dust and the setting sun."

Some in the British press have interpreted the segment as being a tribute to victims of bomb attacks in July 2005 that killed 52 commuters and four suicide bombers on London's transit network. During the BBC live coverage of the ceremony, commentator Hazel Irvine made the connection while the dance was taking place: "The excitement of that moment in Singapore seven years ago when London won the games was tempered with great sorrow the very next day," when the terror attacks took place, she said.

NBC said it had no indication that the segment was a reference to the terrorist attacks.

Although in many places the ceremony was aired in full, NBC aired it on a tape-delayed basis and made editing changes. The network said there are often such production decisions when showing a taped version of a ceremony.

"Our program is tailored for the U.S. television audience," said NBC Sports spokesman Greg Hughes. "It's a credit to (ceremony director) Danny Boyle that it required so little editing."

Why Are Cancer Rates Higher In South Jersey Than North Jersey ...

North Jerseyans are less likely to get cancer than their neighbors to the south.

cigarette

Flickr user Fried Dough

A first-of-its-kind report released by the American Cancer Society points to a primary cancer culprit. It should come as no surprise that smoking is the problem.

The report titled, ?The Cancer Burden in New Jersey? shows the difference in cancer rates in South Jersey vs. North Jersey. The higher cancer incidence in South Jersey is attributed mainly due to a higher prevalence of smoking among residents. A top recommendation includes increased funding for the state?s anti-tobacco program.

The federal government recommends that New Jersey spend $119 million on tobacco control programs. Blair Horner, Vice President for Advocacy, American Cancer Society of NY & NJ says the state spent just $1.5 million last year.

?Tobacco use is the single most important factor associated with cancer mortality, and is identified by the U.S. Surgeon General as a cause of 16 different types of cancer.? says Ethan Hasbrouck, NJ Advocacy Director, American Cancer Society of NY & NJ. ?Smoking accounts for at least 30 percent of cancer deaths, and both smoking rates and overall cancer rates are higher downstate than upstate.?

?Our analysis shows a ?tale of two states,?? says Horner. ?Downstaters face higher cancer rates than upstaters. Generally speaking, men in downstate counties are more likely to have higher than average lung cancer rates, the largest cancer killer. We also know that downstaters also tend to have higher smoking rates than those living upstate. We hope that this report will jump start a statewide discussion on how to reduce cancer incidence, identify cancers earlier, and to assist those in treatment.?

Using data from the New Jersey Department of Health, State Cancer Registry, the report closely examines incidence and mortality rates for New York?s four most common malignancies, lung, prostate, breast and colon cancer. Data regarding the number of cancer cases and deaths for these cancer sites is provided for the 21 counties of New Jersey.

Key findings in the report include; almost 50,000 New Jerseyans were diagnosed with cancer in 2011 and more than 16,000 died from the disease; prostate cancer is New Jersey?s most common cancer; and lung cancer is the largest cancer killer causing more than 4,100 deaths last year.

Recommendations include; creating policies and laws that prevent cancer such as adequately supporting anti-smoking programs; enhancing early detection; and easing the financial burden that comes with cancer treatments by ensuring that all New Jerseyans have access to quality, affordable health insurance.

Data for the report was gathered from the New Jersey Department of Health, State Cancer Registry and the American Cancer Society Cancer Facts & Figures 2011. Horner says when reading the report, care should be taken to avoid over-interpreting findings that show large disparities in cancer incidence and mortality particularly in counties with small populations.

The entire report with the county-by-county breakdown can be found online.

International audition: Romney faces high stakes

LONDON (AP) ? Mitt Romney ? a one-term governor untested on the world's political stage ? faces high stakes in the coming week during visits to England, Israel and Poland. It's a trip that amounts to an international audition.

The Republican presidential candidate is seeking to persuade voters back home to elect him their leader in a complex, dangerous world. And his trip will invite comparisons to Barack Obama's successful overseas 2008 tour before he won the White House.

Romney, whose decades in private business gave him ample exposure to international affairs, hopes to prove that he is no novice on foreign policy. At the same time he'll be highlighting a key part of his resume ? the successful Salt Lake City Olympics he managed ? with a visit to the opening days of the London Games. He's also planned a series of meetings ? and photo events ? with political leaders in the three countries he's visiting in hopes of projecting an image of leadership.

His itinerary is limited to a few tightly controlled appearances in countries that are close allies of the United States, suggesting that Romney knows there are risks as well as potential benefits to his trip.

Romney will be visiting two countries in Europe, a region he's spent most of his campaign criticizing. Beyond that, he's certain to face pressure to outline where he stands on such weighty matters as missile defense, Afghanistan troop levels, violence raging in Syria, the nuclear threat from Iran and the Middle East peace process, putting him on the spot to add details to a foreign policy vision that so far has been short on them.

He also faces the tricky task of contrasting himself with Obama while staying true to his promise not to openly assail the president while on foreign soil, honoring longstanding tradition that American politicians don't criticize their government while abroad. Drawing implicit contrasts with the president also could be difficult because Romney has so far not outlined sharp foreign policy differences with his Democratic opponent.

The sheer logistics of putting together an overseas political trip could stress a campaign still trying to transition from the primary season and struggling to compete against Obama's battle-tested re-election machine. Anything short of flawlessness could raise questions about whether Romney and his team are ready to go head-to-head against Obama this fall, whether they're "ready for prime time."

The trip also will keep Romney off the campaign trail for a full week as Obama hammers him in states essential to winning the 270 Electoral College votes needed for victory this fall. There are signs that Romney may have been gaining some traction after a month of being on the receiving end of Democratic attacks by assailing the president over a remark about business owners. Obama has spent the past few days on the defensive.

Plus, the campaign's focus on foreign policy for the week takes the spotlight away from the central argument for Romney's candidacy ? that Obama is hurting the economy and the Republican's business experience makes him best able to spark job creation ? and puts attention on a Romney weakness.

Republican presidential candidates traditionally have had an advantage over their Democratic opponents on foreign policy and national security. But an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released Wednesday shows that Americans, by a 10-point margin, trust Obama as commander in chief over Romney.

Just over 100 days until the election, polls show the race close, and Democrats and Republicans agree that it's likely to remain so heading into the fall. In tight races, anything can tip the balance ? a foreign trip included.

Four years ago, Obama was a first-term senator when he spent part of the 2008 summer traveling to war zones, the Middle East and several European countries. The high-profile trip intended to burnish his foreign policy credentials culminated with a speech to hundreds of thousands of people outside the Victory Column in Berlin. The rock-star reception he received was intense. So was the wall-to-wall media coverage back home.

"The American people knew exactly where Barack Obama stood on all the major foreign policy issues of the day" after his trip, former Obama adviser Robert Gibbs said. "The question I think for Governor Romney is whether this trip will be similarly substantive, and live up to the bar that was set in 2008, or whether this is one long photo-op and fundraising tour."

Romney's campaign dismisses any comparison, saying Romney's goal is to listen and not give speeches like Obama's Berlin address.

"This trip is an opportunity for the governor to listen and learn, to visit countries that share common values, common interests," said Lanhee Chen, Romney's policy director.

Romney, to be sure, is slated to give a speech in Poland and perhaps one in Israel. But even Republican allies say it's impossible that Romney will generate nearly as much interest as Obama did. Romney also plans a series of interviews while overseas.

There were hiccups before Romney arrived Wednesday in London.

Earlier this week in California, Romney met with Australia's foreign minister, Bob Carr, and later told donors that Carr sees an "America in decline." A day later, the Australians issued a statement clarifying Carr's comments and insisting that he did not intend to criticize the U.S.

Romney also has faced criticism in the Jewish press ahead of his Israel trip for scheduling a fundraiser on Tisha B'Av, a Jewish fasting day that commemorates the destruction of two temples in Jerusalem. Advisers to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu intervened and insisted the timing of the fundraiser was Netanyahu's decision. Romney aides say the candidate has accepted an invitation to break the fast at a traditional Jewish meal with Netanyahu and his wife.

And as Romney flew to London, the Daily Telegraph newspaper published a story quoting an unnamed campaign adviser saying Romney believes the U.S. relationship with Britain is special because of shared "Anglo Saxon heritage" and that the White House doesn't appreciate that shared history.

Romney quickly distanced himself from any such view, with spokesman Ryan Williams saying: "It's not true. If anyone said that, they weren't reflecting the views of Governor Romney or anyone inside the campaign."

Even so, Obama dispatched Vice President Joe Biden and top strategist David Axelrod to criticize Romney.

Said Biden: "The comments reported this morning are a disturbing start to a trip designed to demonstrate Governor Romney's readiness to represent the United States on the world's stage."

Romney faces more challenges as he meets with leaders in Britain and Poland and particularly Israel, where he'll face questions about how he would handle one of America' s most pressing national security concerns: preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

Romney will meet with Netanyahu and with Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, though he won't spend time with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Romney advisers are mum on whether he plans to go to the West Bank to meet Fayyad or whether he will hold the meeting in Israel, a decision that could be viewed as a snub to the Palestinian Authority.

Miracle baby of the Aurora tragedy

TODAY

Katie Medley, who was nine-months pregnant when she was at the movie theater where the Aurora shooting happened, delivered her son, Hugo, on Tuesday morning. Her husband, Caleb, right, is in critical condition in the hospital from gun shot wounds sustained during the attack.

?

By Kate Snow , NBC News

??
AURORA, Colo. ? He?s the tiny miracle after the tragedy of Aurora.?

Hugo Jackson Medley was born at 7:11 a.m. local time on Tuesday, according to University of Colorado Hospital spokesman Dan Weaver. Both mother and child are doing well.

His mother, Katie Medley, escaped the Colorado movie theater attack uninjured, but her husband, Caleb, is in the same hospital in a medically-induced coma fighting for his life.?

High school sweethearts
High school sweethearts, Katie and Caleb Medley started dating during their senior year in the small town of Florence, Colo., according to their close friend Michael West, who has become their family spokesman. ?

?You could just tell that out of everyone in the world, these two were meant for each other,? West wrote on a website dedicated to Caleb that he created to raise money to cover his friend?s medical bills. ?As of Tuesday afternoon, the website has had 2,600 donors who have given about $90,000. ??

In eighth grade, Caleb, now 23, decided he wanted to be a standup comedian. So after he and Katie, 21, got married they moved to Denver, where he could chase his dream.

In an Internet video titled ?Caleb Saves the Internet: Saving the One Nighter,? he chronicles life on the road as a struggling comic.
He jokes about staying in a seedy motel room with a busted deadbolt and stains on the wall. But Caleb was making progress. Last Wednesday night, he performed stand up at the New Faces Contest at Comedy Works South in Denver, according to the Denver Post. He did well enough to advance to the next round of a comedy festival.?

It was to be a big week for the couple. Not only was Caleb getting comedy gigs, but he was about to become a father. Katie, a veterinary student, was nine months pregnant and her doctor planned to induce labor on Monday, July 23.

One last date night
Katie and Caleb decided to treat themselves to one last night out before they needed a babysitter. Even though she was nine months pregnant, they were huge Batman fans and they were not going to miss opening night.

NBC's Kate Snow reports on the shooting suspects court appearance Monday, as well as the status of some of the shooting victims, including Caleb Medley.

"They had Batman apparel on. They waited for this movie for over a year,? said David Sanchez, Katie Medley?s father.?

?They were having the normal opening night movie experience,? their friend Michael West wrote, recounting a conversation he had with Katie.? ?They stood anxiously in line, spent too much on popcorn and soda, suffered through the movie trailers and watched the beginning of the movie. That is when evil struck.?

?I thought it was a prank at first or someone playing along with the movie,? Katie told him, West writes. ?Then he opened fire.?

Caleb was shot in the face. He was put in the back of a police cruiser and driven to University of Colorado hospital. The website says he has lost his right eye, suffered brain damage and is in a medically-induced coma.

Katie?s father, Sanchez, was at the Arapahoe County courthouse Monday to see the man he blames for ruining what was supposed to be a joyous time for the family. He said his daughter had asked him to come since she was in no state to attend herself.

?When it?s your own daughter and she escaped death by just mere seconds, I would say, it really makes you angry,? he told a group of reporters outside the courthouse where the shooting suspect James Eagan Holmes made a brief appearance Monday. ?

Asked about his son-in-law, Caleb, he said, ?He's in critical but stable condition, so we're praying for him. I think the main concern is him right now, and the baby being born.??

Like many of the young 20-somethings at the movies that terrible night, the Medleys have no health insurance, according to their friend West.?

?Caleb and his family have no insurance, and these hospital bills are going to be well into the hundreds if not thousands if not millions. Caleb and Katie will be struggling with these hospital bills for the rest of their lives,? West wrote on the website.

In two remarkable stories of survival, one woman saves the life of her best friend, and a father protects his son's girlfriend after she was badly wounded. NBC's Miguel Almaguer reports.

Syrian forces launch air attacks on largest city

Alex Thomson, Channel Four Europe, reports from?Midan, one of the hardest-hit suburbs of Damascus, where homes?have been destroyed, cars are charred shells and lines of electricity are piles of mangled cables.

By NBC News and wire services

Fierce clashes intensified in Syria's commercial capital of Aleppo on Tuesday as the government unleashed air attacks?on rebellious neighborhoods,?while activists claimed opposition fighters had control over several neighborhoods in the city.

Government helicopter gunships attacked Aleppo, the?Local Coordination Committees, a network of on-the-ground activists, told NBC News.?The Associated Press reported that warplanes circled in the air around the city, while the?British Broadcasting Corp., citing one of its reporters near the area, said that fighter jets had bombed eastern parts of Aleppo.

With sequential rebel attacks on the country's two largest cities and a bombing that wiped out some of his top security advisors, President Bashar Assad reshuffled his top security posts, dismissing one general and appointing a national security council chief to replace the one killed in the recent attack.?

Syria's rebels, outmanned and outgunned by the regime's professional army, have mounted a surprising pair of offensives over the last 10 days against the country's two major cities ? Damascus and Aleppo. Even as the government appears to have snuffed out most of the rebel pockets in the capital, the rebels appear to be fight fiercely in the commercial hub of Aleppo in the north.

The government has?instituted?tight restrictions on outside news outlets working in Syria, making it difficult to verify many reports from inside the country.

Fighting spreads in Aleppo
The battle in Aleppo has spread from neighborhoods in the northeast and southwest of the city to previously untouched areas like Firdous in the south and Arkoub closer to the center, local activists and the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

At least 20 people have been killed in the fighting in Aleppo,?the Local Coordination Committees told NBC.

Opposition activist Mohammed Saeed has estimated that the rebels are holding large chunks of the city and the government has responded with attack helicopters ? key to their retaking of Damascus over the last few days.

Circling fighter jets have also been breaking the sound barrier overhead in an apparent attempt to cow the fighters, the AP reported.

Syria acknowledges it has chemical weapons, will use them if attacked

"It's like a real war zone over here, there are street battles over large parts of the city," Saeed said, with the sound of gunfire and explosions audible over the phone. "Aleppo has joined Homs and Hama and other revolutionary cities."

Syria's government is acknowledging for the first time it has the ability to use chemical and biological weapons, though the government says those weapons wouldn't be used on the country's citizens. The Morning Joe panel ? including New York Magazine's John Heilemann and the Council on Foreign Relations' Dan Senor and Richard Haass ? discusses.

On Sunday, a newly formed alliance of rebel groups called the Brigade for Unification announced an operation to take Aleppo, the country's largest city with about three million people. While the rebels have not shown themselves able to hold neighborhoods for any significant period of time, the continued fighting highlights the government's inability to pin down the lightly armed opposition forces.

Prisoners in Aleppo's jail also rioted overnight and activists said at least eight have been killed by government forces. Another prison riot in the city of Homs has been quelled with tear gas and live ammunition.

The International Committee of the Red Cross issued a statement Tuesday calling the situation in and around Damascus "tense and volatile."

"People have been calling us on a daily basis, saying they need a helping hand," Marianne Gasser, the ICRC's head of delegation in Syria, said in the statement. "Some are in need of the basics -- items one usually takes for granted, such as water and food, and a mattress to sleep on. But first and foremost, they are in need of safety."

NBC's Ayman Mohyeldin answers your questions about Syria

With the conflict raging in Syria's two biggest cities, as well as many provincial ones, Western and many Arab nations are pushing for Assad's removal, although Russia, China, Iran and Iraq are among others opposed to any forced handover of power.

The ferocity of the Syria conflict, in which 1,261 people have been killed since fighting intensified in Damascus on July 15, according to one opposition watchdog, has concentrated attention on the possible repercussions of Assad's overthrow.

Warning over chemical weapons
As the struggle for Syria intensified, Western leaders seized on an admission by Damascus that it has chemical and biological arms and could use them if foreign powers intervened.

Analysts: Russia will be big loser if Assad falls

President Barack Obama said the world would hold Assad and his entourage accountable "should they make the tragic mistake of using those (chemical) weapons."

Israel, which has publicly discussed military action to prevent Syrian chemical weapons or missiles from reaching Assad's Lebanese Shiite militant allies Hezbollah, said there was no sign any such diversion had occurred.

"At the moment, the entire non-conventional weapons system is under the full control of the regime," a senior Israeli defense official, Amos Gilad, told Israel Radio.

Syrian Foreign Ministry spokesman Jihad Makdissi said the army would not use chemical weapons to crush rebels but could use them against forces from outside the country.

The Global Security website, which collects published intelligence reports and other data, says there are four suspected chemical weapons sites in Syria: north of Damascus, near Homs, in Hama and near the Mediterranean port of Latakia. Weapons it produces include the nerve agents VX, sarin and tabun, it said, without citing its sources.

A Plan for a Greener Business - NYTimes.com

Every day, the pressures mount to make a business as green as possible ? even if the business isn?t intrinsically green, like TerraCycle, Method or Earth911. At the same time, lots of small businesses are just trying to make it through the week, which is why many people do not feel they have the luxury of devoting time and energy to reviewing their operations and turning them green. For their businesses the question becomes, how can you go green in a smart way that gives you the best bang for your buck?

Many companies equate sustainable practices with economic efficiencies. For example, if you cut your product?s packaging weight by, say, 30 percent, you will have made a more environmentally friendly package and most likely have saved money in the process. Not surprisingly, these kinds of ?eco-efficiencies? are big in the corporate world because they are driven by financial efficiencies that translate into quantifiable savings.

Obviously, every business should put in place every eco-efficiency it can. Most often, these efficiencies can be found in the form of reductions in the use of resources. But they may also come in less traditional ways, such as from installing solar panels (which we just did at our headquarters in Trenton), encouraging employees to car-pool and installing LED light bulbs.

Once you have taken the easy steps, there are harder questions. Should your business invest in environmental practices that will cost money instead of saving it? Should a business offset its carbon emissions? Sponsor a TerraCycle brigade for its nonrecyclable waste? Participate in 1% for the Planet (you give 1 percent of your profits to various charitable causes)? There are lots of options. The challenge is that all of these programs have a cost. So the next question is: what is the value for your brand from a marketing perspective? For some businesses, a program can provide an immediate sales lift. For others, it can help with a long-term strategy of building brand loyalty.

Let?s take an example. Suppose you have a coffee shop. What would bring greater marketing benefit to you? Eliminating waste (from coffee cups and coffee grounds), giving a percentage of your profit to a social cause or offsetting all of the carbon your shop produces? I would argue ? and, yes, this is somewhat self-serving ? that consumers can relate more to something concrete, like tackling the waste produced from a cup of coffee, than doing something less tangible, like offsetting a pound of carbon emissions.

Some businesses fail to take action because they do not want to call attention to their own waste problems. I would encourage these businesses to think differently. Consumers are not dumb, and they will not be surprised. More important, they will give you credit for facing the problems in your business head on.

Sometimes, the benefits of greening your business can include a marketing boost. If your coffee shop decides to compost coffee grounds and recycle cups, you should call attention to that with signs and other point-of-purchase material. Greening your shop can also give your business more of a premium feel, and it can help with branding. It may help set you apart from competitors.

In the end, any decision to go green should be evaluated the way you would a choice between newspaper and TV advertising. You should ask whether the money spent will generate more sales and more customers than a traditional form of marketing.

And don?t assume that if your business is standard issue ? an office with cubicles ? that means there is nothing you can do. There is always something. You can put bricks in your toilets to use less water. You can print double-sided or avoid printing altogether. You can put timers on lights to ensure that rooms without people in them are not lighted. You can buy reusable coffee mugs. You can replace traditional light bulbs with efficient ones. All of these measures will save money and make you greener.

If you?ve tried those, you might move on to using recycled paper, or even something exotic like paper made from elephant waste (which packs a bit of humor). Or give a financial incentive to your clients to get their billings electronically rather than in the mail. Or perhaps use an ink stamp as a business card instead of an actual business card.

If you do decide to carry out these kinds of green measures, there are two crucial mistakes to avoid. First, don?t do things that are trivial if you don?t have larger projects behind them. For example, reducing the size of your business cards to cut down on paper use is a joke if you don?t deploy more substantial green practices as well.

Second, when you go green, you want to eliminate any glaring infractions, such as not recycling in your office, overusing the HVAC, driving a Hummer, using cartridge coffee without a recycling program and so on. Avoiding these kinds of ?eco-ironies? is crucial to making people feel that you are taking the practice seriously. At TerraCycle, even though our business is recycling, we had serious trouble getting our staff to recycle properly at the office. This was such a glaring eco-irony that we spent considerable time fixing the problem, and now we can boast that we have a fantastic office program.

Tom Szaky is the chief executive of TerraCycle, which is based in Trenton.

Managing Your Money: What You Need To Know About Stock Market

A general tip that all beginners should use is to avoid buying stocks that cost less than 15% per share. When starting out, you generally don?t want to invest in companies that aren?t leading their field and those companies that are, are most definitely going to cost much more than $15 a share.

Set-it-and-forget-it might be a great mentality for the percentage of your income you invest and how often you invest, but not if you are choosing your own stocks. Always keep your eyes open for new investment possibilities. Twenty years ago, the world barely knew what the Internet and wireless phones were, and now they are commonplace. Do not miss out on rising companies and sectors.

Do as much research as possible into any company you decide you want to invest in. You want to see if the company you?re feeding with your money is stable or if it sporadically finds itself all over the place the past year or so in profits and success, this should give you a good indicator of whether or not you should invest.

You should always make sure to do your research on any company that you plan on buying stock in. This includes looking at their financial standing, their prospectus and any SEC reports that are available. Not doing this could cause you to invest in a company that is not doing, as well as they seem.

Be prepared to keep the stocks? long term. If you only intend to hold on to the stocks for a short amount of time, be prepared for a lot of volatility. The market is extremely difficult to predict in the short term, and you may end up selling the stocks ay the wrong time. Holding on to them for the long-term is the best way to ensure a profit.

Spread out your money. You want your portfolio to be set up to weather losses. If all of your money is allocated to one stock or even one sector of the market, a single downturn could wipe you out. Manage your money effectively and you won?t be as hurt by market dips.

When you invest in the stock market, do not forget to diversify your investments. There can be sudden changes in certain industry, positive and negative, that can greatly affect your gross earnings. To be safe and benefit most from industrial windfalls, maintain a portfolio that covers many different industries.

Understanding the stock market isn?t something anyone can do in a single day. It takes time and lots of effort to start the learn how the market works. Make sure that you are dedicating enough time each day to expand your knowledge so that you can become better prepared to make sound investing decisions.

Beginner stock investors would be wise to make themselves prepared to lose a bit of money on some of their trades. Often times, new traders panic at the first dollar they lose and quickly sell off their stocks before giving them a chance to recover on their own.

Roth IRA?s offer many investment benefits in the form of tax shelters and breaks which minimize the drag on your returns. An additional benefit to to them is that if you have any year where your medical and health expenses surpass 7.5% of that year?s gross adjusted income, you can pay for those expenses penalty free from your Roth IRA.

Keep in mind that investing is a business, not a hobby. You?re doing this to make money, not for fun. Any time you?re doing something regarding your investments, whether it?s getting a magazine subscription or investing in a new stock, you need to sit down and ask yourself whether it?s going to help you make money, or if you?ll lose money from it.

Learn, understand and remember the difference between value and price. The stock price is what you will pay for it when you invest in your shares. The stock value is what you are assumed or expected to get in market returns down the road, in terms of growth of stock price. Value can also relate to the dividends that a company pays you for your stock shares.

Avoid the temptation to trade in and out of stocks too often. While there are some people that day trade, most of those people actually lose money. It is difficult to outperform the market and human psychology often leads investors to sell at the bottom and buy at the top. This is the exact opposite of what an investor should do. Buy a stock at a good price and then hold, unless something has fundamentally changed about the stock?s worth.

Consider buying when you start to see prices fall. When prices of stocks that you own start to fall, your initial instinct will probably be to sell. While you certainly must understand your tolerance for risk and sell when it is necessary, falling prices might actually be the optimum time to buy. View buying stocks at a low price as your opportunity to get them on sale, and then try to sell when the prices are high to see a greater gain.

Remember that there aren?t any guarantees or any perfect rules for investing in the stock market. The behavior of the market depends upon so many factors that no one can say with certainty how a given stock or the market overall will perform. If you are expecting to get rich quickly, you will probably be disappointed.

In conclusion, although the stock market can be a complicated thing to invest in, it is still very possible to invest and have success. All that is needed to do this is a clear understanding of the stocks and how to analyze them. Thanks to the advice in this article, it can be easier to do.
