Preview: No. 24 Florida at Texas A&M

Preview: No. 24 Florida at Texas A&M

NO. 24 FLORIDA (1-0) AT TEXAS A&M (0-0)

KYLE FIELD, COLLEGE STATION, 3:30 P.M. SATURDAY (ESPN)

WHO SHOULD WIN?

The benefit of having played a game, even in a subpar effort, will be the difference in a close Florida victory. Texas A&M is starting a quarterback in redshirt freshman Johnny Manziel who has never taken a snap in college.

UNDER THE GUN

Florida quarterback Jeff Driskel (left) is expected to be given plenty of slack to go the distance. The true sophomore has to generate an aerial attack against an Aggies defense that was 109th last season in pass defense and lost five starters.

HISTORY LESSON

The teams have split two prior meetings, with the Aggies winning the last 37-14 in the Sun Bowl on Jan. 2, 1977. Florida beat Texas A&M 42-6 in Gainesville during the 1962 season. The Gators are 1-7-2 in games played in Texas, but they haven?t visited the state since 1982.

WHO?S NOT PLAYING

Gators: OT Matt Patchan (pectoral muscle), DB De?Ante ?Pop? Saunders (hamstring) and long snapper Drew Ferris (clavicle) are expected to be out.

BY THE NUMBERS

599.1:?Yards per game that first-year Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin guided Houston?s offense to last season. The Cougars led the nation in total offense and scoring offense (49.3 points a game).
